Mr. Beamon Meares, 80, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC. He was born on September 2, 1935 in Fair Bluff, NC. Beamon was the son of the late Irvin Meares and Vera Strickland Meares. He is survived by his former wife, Peggy Townsend Meares, of Goose Creek, SC.; his son, Stanley Meares of Mount Pleasant, SC; and daughter, Teresa Meares, of Goose Creek, SC. Also surviving are sisters, Katie Meares Chapman of Cheraw, and Evonne Meares Smith of Wilmington, NC.
In addition to his parents, Beamon is preceded in death by brothers I.V. Meares, formerly of Chadbourn, NC, and Gordon Lee Meares, formerly of Fair Bluff, NC.
Beamon graduated from Fair Bluff High School in 1953, advanced his technical education in electronics in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C., then proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1964. For 29.5 years, he was employed as Assistant Chief Engineer with WUSN Channel 2 in Mount Pleasant, SC. Outside of work, he enjoyed his association with the Shriner's Organizatoin for many years. Always an avid fisherman, Beamon loved the water, going shrimping and oystering, and was the happiest outdoors or in his garden.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 in the Meares Family Cemetery on Rough and Ready Rd. in Fair Bluff, NC. near the Hinson's Crossroads at 11:00 AM. Tex Floyd will officiate.
