Billy Franklin Floyd, 76 of Cerro Gordo died Thursday December 31, 2009 at Duke University Hospital in Durham. Billy was born in Columbus County to the late Benjamin Franklin and Edna Eliza Floyd . He attended NC Sate University where he played on the 1951 NC State Baseball team. He was an avid NC State Wolfpack fan, a member of the Wolfpack Club and a former Wolfpack Club representative. Billy was a dedicated and active member of Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley B. Floyd. He was retired from Federal Paper where he worked as a procurement forester. Billy loved the out of doors, hunting, fishing ,cooking and eating. He loved to be around people and he enjoyed life to its fullest. Funeral services will be held at 3 Pm Sunday January 3, 2010 at Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church, officiating will be Rev. Neill Smith and Rev. Hubert McCleney. Burial will follow in the Powell Cemetery, Fair Bluff. Surviving are his daughter, Carla Michelle Floyd of Chadbourn; his son, Franklin Travis "Chick" Floyd of Raleigh; 3 sisters, Orville "Vi" Cothran of Whiteville, Jo Frazier and Louise Gorham both of Wilmington; and a granddaughter Jillian Elizabeth Floyd. The family will receive friends Saturday January 2, 2010 from 6:30 until 9 Pm at the funeral home.
