Calvin Luther “C.D.” Meares, 88 of Fair Bluff died Friday February 15, 2013 at Liberty Commons in Whiteville.

Mr. Meares was born in Columbus County a son of the late Whitten and Fannie Meares, he was a member of Porter Swamp Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon . Mr. Meares retired from the North Carolina Army National Guard, he was a former Fair Bluff Police officer, farmer and manufacturer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel S. Meares and a son Franklin Eugene Meares.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Monday February 18, 2013 at Porter Swamp Baptist Church, burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his daughter, Lois Neale Meares of Fair Bluff; his son, W.C. Meares and his wife Elaine of Cerro Gordo; 2 grandsons, Scott Meares and his wife Heather, Shane Meares and his wife Dana; 4 great grandchildren, Anthony Meares and his wife Tabia; Chelsi Parries, Alex Meares, and Morgan Hammond.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Sunday February 17^th at the funeral home.
