Mrs. Carolyn “Sugar” Dudney, 84, of Cerro Gordo, NC died Thursday afternoon, January 16, 2020 at her residence.
She was born on January 26, 1935 in Columbus County, NC; a daughter of the late Donnie and Fannie Richardson Edwards.
Mrs. Dudney was a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church where she had taught in the Sunday school department.
A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, January 19, 2020, in the Meares Funeral Home Chapel in Fair Bluff at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Jim Lamb to officiate. Interment will follow in the Edwards Cemetery on Guilford Edwards Road in Cerro Gordo.
Surviving are a son, John Michael Dudney, of the home; three daughters, Rita Gale Cottrell (David) of Hope Mills, NC, Kimberly K. Dudney of the home, Amanda Renee Dudney of the home; and a grandson, Michael Britt of the home and granddaughter, Amber Cottrell of Hope Mills; and several nieces and nephews with their families.
The family would like to express a special word of “thanks” to her caregivers, Shannon Stegall, Dawn and Raquel of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and Jackie Lovette and Gwen Strickland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 206 Warrior Tr., Whiteville, NC 28472.
The family will receive friends prior to the hour of service at the funeral home, from 2 until 2:45 pm.
