David Claude “DC” Barber, Jr.  83 of Orrum died Tuesday August 26, 2014 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton.

Mr. Barber was born in Robeson County to the late David Claude and Mary Smith Barber. He was a member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church and faithfully served with the Sterlings Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.  “DC” always had a large garden and took great pleasure in sharing the vegetables that he grew with those in the community.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday August 30, 2014 at Bloomingdale Baptist Church, burial with Fire Department Honors will follow in the Floyd Memorial Cemetery, Fairmont.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Barber of the home; 3 sons, Timothy Barber of Orrum, Dwayne Barber (Lavon) of Mooresville, Randy Barber of Charlotte; a sister, Nell Lee of Latta, SC;  13 grandchildren, Danny Barber (Connie) of Idaho, Denise Stephens (Brian) of Orrum, John Barber (Rebecca) of Orrum, Melissa Barber of Orrum, Michael Dwayne Barber (Leslie) of Mt. Olive, Joey Barber (Brittany) of Mooresville, Stephen Barber (Nikki) of Mt. Olive, Brian Barber of Mooresville, Chris Barber (Sarah) of Italy, David Barber of Lenoir, Benjamin Barber (Ashley) of Spruce Pine, Cody Barber of Charlotte, Hannah Barber of Charlotte, and 22 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Friday August 29, 2014 at Meares Funeral Home in Fair Bluff.
