Dorcas Thompson Hammond, 82 of Fair Bluff died Monday March 12, 2012. Born in Columbus County August 26, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Henry Berry and Lannie Mae Nobles Thompson. She graduated from the former Pembroke State University and taught school in the Columbus County public schools until her her retirement. Mrs. Hammond was a member of Hinson's Crossroads Baptist Church where she served for many years as the pianist and organist. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Frostie Lupton, Doris Herring, Mary Meares and Alice Green and a brother, Barry Thompson. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 Am Wednesday March 14, 2012 at the Meares Cemetery, Rev. Eric Truesdale will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Hinson's Crossroads Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Owen Hammond of the home; 2 sons, Roger Hammond and his wife Rosa of Fair Bluff, Mark Hammond and his wife Sara of Concord; a brother, Glen Thompson of Cerro Gordo; a sister Amelita Hawkins of Raleigh; 3 grandchildren, Staci Powers, Greg Hammond, Jeff Hammond and 3 great grandchildren, Zac, Bradley and Annalee.
