Elmo Hammond, 94 died peacefully at his home March 13th, 2008. Mr. Hammond was born November 20, 1913 in Columbus County, a son of the late Billy Bob and Sally Mae Parker Hammond. Mr. Hammond was a 1938 graduate of Northwest University in Chicago. He served in the US Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He began his career at the old Scotty Theater and continued to work with Scott Hardware of Fair Bluff until his retirement. Mr. Hammond was a life long member of Fair Bluff Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He also was responsible for broadcasting the church services for Fair Bluff Baptist Church and Fair Bluff United Methodist Church for 27 years. Mr. Hammond was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Bob and Sally Mae Parker Hammond. His first wife, Margaret Page Hammond and his second wife, Ada Margaret Hammond. Also, two brothers, J.W. and Otto Hammond. Surviving are a brother B.B. Hammond of Oak Island; daughters, Merilyn Hayes Duncan (Charles) of Garner; Celia Hayes Ogburn of Raleigh and Judith Hayes Enzor (Herman) of Nichols SC; his grandchildren, Geoffrey (Evelyn) Duncan, Gina Duncan, Tim Pait, Trey Cuttrell; step grandchildren, Dana Elliott, and Dowe Eznor (Kim); great step grandchildren, Amber Elliott, Zachery Elliott, Healey Taft, and Heyden Enzor ; One great great step grandchild Aigail Graco Floyd and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will held at 3 PM Sunday March 16, 2008 at Fair Bluff Baptist Church, Dr. Ray Lundy will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in the Powell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 PM Saturday at the funeral home Memorials may be made to Fair Bluff Baptist Church, Christian Life Center PO Box 217, Fair Bluff NC 28439 or Fair Bluff Community Library PO Box 428, Fair Bluff NC 28439. Mr. Hammond was very community oriented and had a love of music, flying , and animals. His family was his life long love.
