Irene S. Brown, 92 or Cerro Gordo died Friday October 25, 2013 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton.

Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Charlie and Alice Jenkins Strickland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bartley Brown, and two sons, Thomas Brown and Jimmy Ray Brown. Mrs. Brown was a member of Porter Swamp Baptist Church, a devoted mother and caregiver.

Funeral services will be held  at 2 PM, Monday October 28, 1013 at Porter Swamp Baptist Church, Rev Tim Moore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Porter Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth Brown and his wife Lena of Cambridge MD; 4 daughters, Betty  Goodman and her husband Max of Cerro Gordo, Gerry Hayes of Kenly, Frances Thorndyke and her husband Donald of Lumberton, Brenda Conner and her husband Henry of Wilmington; a brother, J.C. Strickland of Lumberton; a sister, Marie Lewis of Chadbourn,
  17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from  7 PM  until  9 PM  Sunday  at Meares Funeral Home, Fair Bluff.
