Lt. Col. (retired) Joseph Brooks Townsend, 91, passed away on September 23, 2013 at Oaks of Mayview. J. B. was born in Fair Bluff, NC on October 26, 1921 to the late Berry Lee Townsend and Lelia Belle Waddell Townsend. He retired with 27 years of service in the United States Air Force.

A memorial service will be held at 12 PM (Noon) Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the Powell Cemetery, Fair Bluff. The family will receive friends following the service in the Christian Life Center of Fair Bluff Baptist Church.

Surviving is his special friend, Jean Fisher of Raleigh; his daughters: Jean Townsend of Los Angeles, CA, Patricia Klapthor and husband, Neil of Evans, GA, Lani Crawford and husband, Dale of Dallas, TX; Four Grandchildren and Seven Great-Grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of Wake County or Hospice of Wake County.
