J.S. "Stan" Thompson, 90 of Fair Bluff died Friday January 14, 2011 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center's Angel House. Mr. Thompson was born in McColl SC a son of the late Joseph and Cleon Stanton Thompson. He was an US Army veteran of WW II, a member of Fair Bluff United Methodist Church and was a former volunteer coordinator with the Columbus County Department of Aging. "Stan" retired from Ellis Meares & Son, Inc of Fair Bluff. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 3 Pm Sunday, (01/16/2011) at Fair Bluff United Methodist Church, Rev. Neill Smith will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in The Powell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM at the church. Surviving are his wife, Clotile Elliott Thompson of the home; 2 sons, Stan Thompson, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Marion SC, Terry Thompson and his wife Terry of Fork SC; a daughter, Janette Strickland and her husband Sam of Loris; step children, Randy Elliott and his wife Frances of Nichols and Karen Elliot Hayes and her husband Ronnie of Nichols SC. 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Angel House , 206 Warrior Trail Whiteville, NC 28472
