Jimmy Ray Brown, 66 of Leland died Tuesday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Mr. Brown was born in Columbus County, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member and Deacon of Wrightsboro Baptist Church and was a retired machine Operator/ MRB coordinator for General Electric, Aircraft Division. He was preceded in death by his father, Bartley Brown and a brother, Thomas Brown. The family will receive friends from 2 till 3 p.m. Saturday April 7, 2012 at Meares Funeral Home in Fair Bluff, NC. Rev. Michael Lewis and Rev. Tim Moore will officiate the funeral service at the funeral home at 3 p.m. After the service there will be a brief graveside committal at Porter Swamp Cemetery in Cerro Gordo, NC. He is survived by, his wife, Ann S. Brown of the home; two sons, Lt. Col. Jimmy Keith Brown and his wife Linda of Bossier City, LA, Sherman Ray Brown and his wife Theresa of Colorado Springs CO.; 2 daughters, Misty Ann Ward and her husband Terry of Pender County, Beverly Lynn Higgins and her husband Tommy of Sarasota FL.; his mother, Irene Brown of Cerro Gordo, a brother, Kenneth Lee Brown and his wife Lena of Cambridge MD.; 4 sisters, Betty B. Goodman and her husband Max of Cerro Gordo, Gerry B. Hayes and her husband Henry of Kenly, Frances B. Thorndyke and her husband Donald of Lumberton, Brenda B. Conner and her husband Henry of Wilmington; 7 grandchildren.
