Joseph Junior Harrelson, 81 of Cerro Gordo died Monday April 6, 2009 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Mr. Harrelson was born in Columbus County to the late Joseph Maxie and Lillian Sellers Harrelson. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII, serving on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mr. Harrelson worked as a store manager for Scott's Plumbing Supply, and farmed. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday April 9, 2009 at Porter Swamp Baptist Church, Rev. Tim Moore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Porter Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mabel Purvis Harrelson of the home; 2 sons, Joseph Keith Harrelson and his wife Sue of Cerro Gordo, Nathan Purvis Harrelson and his wife Donna of Aberdeen; 2 daughters, Myra Kate Willis and her husband Steve of Prosperity SC and Diedra Jane Harrelson of Cerro Gordo; 8 grandchildren, William Joseph "Jody" Johnson, Travis Johnson, Nicholas Willis, Lindsey Willis, Joseph Austin Harrelson, Whitney Harrelson, Joseph Clint Harrelson and Paige Harrelson The family will receive friends Wednesday April 8, 2009 from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
