Joseph D. Meares, 68 of Cerro Gordo died Thursday May 3, 2012 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice House in Whiteville. Mr. Meares was born in Columbus County a son of the late Devine and Pollie Andrews Meares. He was a member of Fair Bluff Church of God and was a mechanic at Fair Bluff Motors until his retirement. Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Saturday May 5, 2012 at The Fair Bluff Church of God, Rev. Charles Dudley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hammond Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Surviving are his son, Edward Meares of Cerro Gordo; his daughter, Angela Britt of Chadbourn; 3 brothers, Shelton Meares and John Meares both of Cerro Gordo, Billy Meares of Nakina; 2 sisters, Nina Gordon and Alice Meares both of Cerro Gordo; 3 grandchildren. Memorials may be to Lower Cape Fear Hospice "Angel House", 206 Warrior Trail Road Whiteville, NC 28472
