Margaret Walters Enzor, 97, born September 10, 1917 in the Union Valley section of Columbus County (known at that time as Happy Hill), died January 14, 2015 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Whiteville, NC. She was the daughter of Allen Francis and Martha "Mattie" Pridgen Walters. She was predeceased by her parents and six brothers, James Clarence Walters, Dallie Glasgo Walters, Neal Archa Walters, Woodrow Wilson Walters, Allen Maxwell "Sandy" Walters Jr., and Jack Walters.
In her early years she worked at Belk in Whiteville, NC. After her marriage to Charles Gilbert Enzor, she moved to the Enzor Farm in Horry
County, South Carolina. Margaret and Gilbert had one son, the late Charlie Gilbert Enzor, who became the center of her life. Having grown up in a farming
family, Margaret seemed to thrive in each of the roles required of her on a rural farm. She enjoyed motherhood, delighted in being an immaculate housekeeper, found much pleasure in working in her yard, and was an excellent seamstress .
Margaret was a very independent lady who appreciated the simple pleasures in life. She was of strong faith, a virtue that sustained her throughout her life, especially during the difficult period following her son Charlie's death in 2003. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church, Nichols, SC, where she enjoyed attending Sunday School and worship service for many years.
Surviving are her grandson, Lt. Gilbert Elvington Enzor, US Army, currently stationed at Fort Polk Louisiana, daughter-in-law Harriet Elvington
Enzor of Nichols and Murrells Inlet, SC, Louise Walters Powell and Margaret Jean Walters Massengill of Whiteville, NC, JC Walters of Bennettsville SC, and many nieces and nephews.
Her friend and companion for the last 9 years, Patricia Alford of Nichols, SC has been an ever-present part of her family.
The funeral service will be Saturday January 17, 2015 at Spring Branch Baptist Church at 11 am, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be after the burial.
