Dennis Mitchell Strickland, 55 of the Cherry Grove community died Monday at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Mitchell was born in Columbus County and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann W. Strickland; his father Dennis Strickland and two brothers, Cecil and Larry Strickland. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Thursday, January 1 at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Josh Phillips will officiate, burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are his son, Christopher Strickland of Tabor City; his mother, Susie B. Strickland of Cerro Gordo; a brother, Billy Strickland of Cerro Gordo; four sisters, Peggy Dippel of Whiteville, Bonnie Worley of Fair Bluff, Linda Strickland of Cerro Gordo, Tamie Samuels of Cerro Gordo; and two granddaughters, Greta Strickland and Aubree Strickland. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Cherry Grove Baptist Church Building Fund 9833 Swamp Fox Highway West, Cerro Gordo NC 28430
