Mr. Roger Ashley Dickerson passed away peacefully at his home May, 1 2018. He was 90 years old.
Roger was born and raised in Northampton County, NC in the little town of George, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Matthew Dickerson and Fannie Lee Jenkins and a brother, William Dickerson.
Growing up Roger, attended Woodland Olney School in Woodland, NC. He was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church, and served his country in the U.S. military.
He met the love of his life while a patient at the Roanoke Rapids Hospital, Sue Floyd who was a student nurse. They married on December 6, 1958 in her hometown Fair Bluff, NC.
Roger began his 30-year employment with the State of NC at Caledonia Prison and retired while at Odom Prison. After retirement, he and Sue moved from Woodland to Fair Bluff.
Roger always planted a huge garden so he could share with his family and friends. He loved the Carolina Tar Heels, New York Yankees and Washington Redskins.
He enjoyed fishing and time spent at Lake Gaston.
Roger was a mason and a member of Hinsons Crossroads Baptist Church, where he served on the building and grounds committee, and as an usher.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 3 pm at Hinson Crossroads Baptist Church with Dr. Neil Stanley and Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Interment to follow, Meares Cemetery on Hinson Crossroads Road.
Roger is survived by his wife, Sue Floyd Dickerson; daughters, Johnna D. Stump of Chadbourn, and Karen D. Vaughan (Neal) of Margaretsville, NC; sons, Brooks Dickerson (MiRyung) of Fair Bluff and George Dickerson (Karen) of St. Paul; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm at the church prior to the service.
