Ruby Lee Horne

Ms. Ruby Lee Holmes Horne, age 81, of Fair Bluff, NC, died Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System.

Born March 3, 1934 in Horry County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Gaston and Thelma Irene Turbeville Holmes.

A lifelong resident of Fair Bluff, she was the valedictorian of the Fair Bluff High School Class of 1952 and a member of Fair Bluff Baptist Church. 

After high school, Ms. Horne was a dental assistant for Dr. Waddell until her children were born and she became a homemaker.  She loved her children and grandchildren and her life was devoted to them.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Horne Ashley of Fair Bluff, NC and Lou Horne Houck of Wilmington, NC; Step-children, Lynda Derzanski of Bladenboro,, NC, Brenda Hilburn of Fair Bluff, NC, and Kenny Horne of Whiteville, NC; brothers, C M Holmes and his wife, Kathy, of St. Augustine, FL and Tommy Holmes and his wife, Frances, of Burgaw, NC; a niece, Kimberly Holmes Nance and her husband, Chris, of Rocky Point, NC; and her grandchildren, Kaitlin Ashley Cox and her husband, Ace, of Lake View, SC and Haley Alexandra Houck of Wilmington, NC.  She is also survived by her husband, Frank Horne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Bobbie Lee Holmes.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Meares Funeral Home.  The Rev. Ray Lundy will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Powell Cemetery.

Jimmy Moore, Kenny Turbeville, Ed Ashley, Kenny Horne, Ace Cox, and Chuck Stanley will serve as pallbearers.  Legrand Cantey will serve as an honorary pallbearer. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, October 6, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  At other times, the family will be at the home.
