Russell Meares, 76 of Fair Bluff died Saturday November 5, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Mr. Meares was born in Columbus County a son of the late Rowland Jason and Ethel Sealey Meares. He was a member of Hinson's Crossroads Baptist Church and Fair Bluff Lodge # 190 A.F. & A.M.. Mr. Meares retired from the Columbus County Maintenance Department after 17 years. Russell was a farmer and gardener, perhaps being best known as planting a garden that would feed the "entire neighborhood". Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday November 8, 2011 at Hinson's Crossroads Baptist Church, Rev. Eric Truesdale and Rev. Jerry Philips will officiate. Burial will follow in the Meares Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Juanita H. Meares of the home; a son, Dr. Jason Meares and his wife Beth of Pawley's Island SC; a daughter, Anita Atkinson and her husband Anthony of Conway; a brother, Ralph Meares of Tabor City; four grandchildren, Austin Meares, Bennett Meares, Jonathan "Moe" Meares, and Syndee Atkinson.
