Russell Earl Moore finished his earthly life on July 18, 2014 surrounded by his children. Born in Bennettsville, SC on April 4, 1934 Russell was the only child of Gertman Thomas Moore and Dora Polson Moore. He was a graduate of Bennettsville High School and attended Coker and New Berry Colleges in South Carolina. A veteran of the United States Army he served as a member of the 82nd Airborne from 1952 until 1958. During his years of service, he received a Parachutist Badge, a Good Conduct Metal and a National Defense Service Metal. He was involved in commercial sales throughout North and South Carolina for most of his career.
"Boney" as he was affectionately known was one of the original "Beaver Boys" lifeguards at Ocean Drive Beach, SC in the early 1950's. He never lost his love for Ocean Drive and spent countless happy hours there with his many S.O.S. friends. An original member of the Society of Shaggers he was inducted into the Living Legend Association, the Shaggers Hall of Fame, the OD Pavilion Boys In the Band and received the Pug Wallace Intergalactic Award.
He is survived by his three children: Donna Moore Cutrell (Robby), Michael Moore (Christy) and Jenny Moore as well as his three grandchildren: Justin Cutrell, Bradley Cutrell and Carlee Moore.
A Celebration of Life for "Boney" will be held at 3 PM Sunday August 3, 2014 at the OD Pavillion.
