Shelton C. “S.C.” Meares, 73 of Cerro Gordo died Thursday October 2, 2014 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Life Care Center in Whiteville.

 Mr. Meares was born in Columbus County, a son of the late Devine and Pollie Andrews Meares. He was a retired mechanic as well as the former manager of the Fair Bluff ABC store.

 A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday October 5, 2014 at Hinson’s Crossroads Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

 Surviving are, his wife, Saundra Lee Meares of the home; 2 sons, John C. Meares of Greensboro, Slade Meares of Cerro Gordo; 2 brothers, Billy Meares of Nakina, John Meares of Cerro Gordo; 2 sisters, Nina Mae Gordon and Alice Faye Meares of both of Cerro Gordo; 3 grandchildren, Leo Meares, Lynn Meares and Hayden Meares.
