Vollie Eugene “Gene” Edwards, Jr. 44 of Cerro Gordo died Sunday December 7, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Gene was born in Columbus County and worked as a Tobacco Ticket Marker and later worked with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents, Guilford and Clara T. Edwards; his Maternal Grandfather, J.C. Strickland; and an uncle, Mickey Strickland. He was a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church.

 Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Josh Phillips will officiate. Burial will follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery.

 Surviving are his parents, Vollie Edwards, Sr. and Lois Elizabeth Edwards of Cerro Gordo; his sister, Shelia Edwards Faulk and her husband Henry Alan; a very special niece, Dori Lane Faulk; his maternal grandmother, Sudie Strickland Buffkin and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

 The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
